| 17th Century painting on glass is an old world process entwined with traditional European folklore. The process starts in reverse, that is, the scene is inked on the reverse side of the glass, followed by the laying down of real gold leaf and a fine layer of ash. When dry, the scene is then painted from front to back using a limited palette of oil color. One mistake and the entire painting must be scraped clean from the glass and the time consuming process repeated.
